Presentation of the Lord
On the 2nd February we celebrate the Presentation of the Lord and the celebration of light which symbolises the manifestation of Jesus Christ. We recall the delight of Simeon and Anna to be able to see the child and the wonder of Mary and Joseph as they hear what is being said of the child in their care but we also must listen to the words of caution from Simeon to Mary about the suffering her Son will experience in the future. The intention for the month of February is the Holy Family and the days ahead are an ideal time for us all to pray for the families within our communities. For the joys and sorrows experienced; for the wonder and worries parents will have as they reflect on the future of their children; for the wisdom and vulnerability of the older members of our families and communities. As we celebrate the light of Christ on the 2nd February, may His light guide us all in our care and appreciation of family life and to minister to our families with compassion and charity.
