The story of the encounter between the risen Christ and the two companions on the road to Emmaus

The story of the encounter between the risen Christ and the two companions on the road to Emmaus shows us how Jesus patiently walks along-side them. He leads them to the clues in scripture that helps to lift their hearts in hope from the gloom they were suffering before the encounter. Jesus does not force his company on them he lets the companions have the initiative. They invite him to stay for a meal, he breaks the bread and they realise in whose presence they are in.

With us too, Jesus walks alongside and helps us to understand the insights of scripture. Again he does not impose himself on us, he gives us the option of continuing the walk with him and when we invite Jesus to stay with us, we too are lifted up in heart and mind. Jesus does not impose himself, he invites and when we accept his invitation to share our daily lives with him the fruits of his grace nurture us.
