The month of November
The month of November begins with All Saints Day on the first day. It was known in the past as All Hallows and the eve of All Hallows became known as Halloween. So instead of witches and ghosts the original purpose of Halloween was to mark the evening as the eve before celebrating our saints both known and unknown. The Feast of All Saints reminds us of the desire God has for everyone to be blessed by a Divine Destiny a perfect union with God made possible by God’s loving grace and mercy. We know of the famous saints but the 1st November helps us to acknowledge that there are many saints who are unknown and some may have crossed our paths in life inspiring us to turn to God and trust in His grace. The following day is All Souls Day. A time to remember those we have loved who have died and we pray for them. The day is known as the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed; these are people who have died in a state of grace and we remember also those who are in Purgatory. Our sins put upon our souls the need of purification the time in Purgatory is a preparation so that we may be perfectly united with God.
We pray for all who have died for we do not know who is in Heaven who is in Hell and who is in Purgatory, only God knows this and this is why it is so important we remember those who have died, not only our loved ones but especially those who have no one else to pray for them. So go make disciples on this earth and pray for those disciples who have gone before us. Amen.
Prayer
Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord, let perpetual light shine upon them, may they rest in peace; may their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
