Stay for a cuppa after mass on October 21 and 22 and be part of the mission to share God’s love with all people
October is the month of mission and Sunday 22rd is World Mission Sunday (WMS). The Holy
Father invites all Catholics to contribute through prayer and donations to Missio, his charity
for world mission which supports missionaries worldwide to work alongside communities
that are poor or in need, regardless of their background or belief.
In much of the developing world many public services are run by the Catholic Church. WMS
is vital to the growth of the Church and the spread of the Gospel in impoverished and
remote areas. The funds raised build much-needed infrastructure, from chapels and schools
to orphanages, clinics and dispensaries transforming lives and creating hubs from which the
young Church can flourish and grow.
Every penny, pound and prayer you give to Missio helps missionaries to continue their work
and often they will be the first to respond to the physical and spiritual needs of people who
are suffering from poverty, conflict, violence and oppression.
For 2023 WMS Pope Francis has chosen the theme ‘Hearts on fire, feet on the move’ (cf.
Luke 24:13-35). More information will be available on a display in church and the autumn
edition of Mission Today. Use this link to WMS on the MISSIO website.
Mission Month is a beautiful time to come together to pray and raise funds for missionaries
and the Church’s mission to celebrate our global Catholic family which is arguably more
important than ever with so many experiencing poverty and conflict, and longing for the
love and compassion of God in their lives.
You are warmly invited to stay in church for a cuppa after mass on Saturday evening and
Sunday morning in an opportunity for our own parish to come together to renew old
friendships and create new ones. So why not join in on this special day that unites Catholics
all over the world in prayer and celebration of our Church’s mission to share God’s love with
all people.
